Red Lion

Located south of York, is the borough of Red Lion.  It is surrounded by rolling hills and farmland yet it is only minutes from Interstate 83 which can take you south to Baltimore or north to York and Harrisburg.  The town got its name from one of its first pubs in the area, the Red Lion Tavern.  Red Lion was a main stop for the Maryland Pennsylvania Railroad which traveled from York County to Baltimore.  It was once famous for the many cigars that were made there and was the cigar making capital of the world, making millions of cigars a month.  The National Register of Historic Places has the Consumers Cigar Box Company and Red Lion Borough Historic District on its registry.
